Before You Measure

Ring size is a small number with a real-life consequence.

A ring should pass the knuckle with gentle resistance and sit securely at the base of the finger. Temperature, time of day, band width, and dominant-hand differences can all shift the result, so one careful measurement is useful and two confirmations are better.

For the printable chart, keep the PDF at its original scale. After printing, use a ruler to confirm the 2 inch / 50 mm calibration bars before using the paper sizer or ring circles.

Print at actual size Use 100% scale. Avoid fit-to-page, shrink-to-fit, or browser scaling.
Measure late in the day Fingers are often most stable after normal daily movement and body temperature.
Consider band width Wider bands can feel snugger than slim bands, even at the same numerical size.

Three Ways To Measure

Use the method that matches what you have.

A current ring is usually the cleanest reference. If you do not have one, use the paper sizer or a non-stretch string, then confirm the result against the conversion chart.

Method 01

Print and cut the paper sizer.

Cut out the sizer and make the slit where marked. Wrap it around the finger, pull until secure and comfortable, then read the number at the slit.

  • Best when there is no current ring to compare.
  • Keep the numbers visible while wrapping.
  • Repeat a few times for consistency.

Method 02

Measure a ring that already fits.

Place a well-fitting ring over the printed circles. The inside edge of the ring should align closely with one of the circle outlines.

  • Use a ring from the same finger and hand.
  • Match the inner edge, not the outside edge.
  • If it falls between circles, consider the middle quarter size.

Method 03

Use string or a paper strip.

Wrap a non-stretch string around the base of the finger, mark where the ends meet, then measure the length in millimeters and compare it with the chart.

  • Do not pull so tightly that the skin compresses.
  • Measure over the knuckle if it is prominent.
  • Use millimeters for the cleanest conversion.

Fit Checks

What a good fit should feel like.

  • 01 The ring should slide over the knuckle with light resistance, not force.
  • 02 At the base of the finger, it should feel secure when your hand is relaxed.
  • 03 If your measurement changes with temperature or time of day, use the most repeatable result as the baseline.
  • 04 If the ring style has a wider band, leave room for the extra surface contact.

Sizing Questions

A few checks before you choose.

Should I size up for a wider band?

Often, yes. Wider bands cover more skin and can feel snugger than a slim solitaire band. Use your measurement as the baseline, then consider the width of the final design.

What if my finger changes size during the day?

Measure when your hands are at a normal temperature and repeat the measurement at least twice. Very cold or warm hands can shift the result.

Can I use a phone screen ring size chart?

Printed charts are safer because screens vary by device, zoom setting, and browser scaling. If you use any printable chart, always confirm the calibration bars first.

What should I do if I am between sizes?

Record both measurements and check the ring style. A quarter size may be more precise than moving directly to the next half or whole size.
